50 Questions You’ve Never Been Asked Tag

We all know how much I love a good Tag post so when I was tagged by Louise from With Love From Lou to do the “50 questions you’ve never been asked tag” I was really excited!.  Tags are usually so easy to write as the questions do all of the hard work for you.  You don’t have to find inspiration – just give honest answers and job done!

I must admit I think this is probably the longest tag I’ve ever done and if you’re still reading by question 50 I admire your loyalty, so let’s not waste any more time and jump right in with Question 1:

01. What’s your favorite candle scent?

I’m not entirely sure that I have a favourite candle scent, but my favourite scents generally are cinnamon or sandlewood, so I guess I’d love candles with those fragrances too!

02. What female celebrity do you wish was your sister?

Everyone knows how much I adore Carrie Hope Fletcher so I’d have to say her. (I’d settle for celebrity BFF, rather than sister.)  If she’s unavailable I also think Anna Kendrick is awesome and would be a hoot to hang out with.

03. What male celebrity do you wish was your brother?

This is a really hard one as I’ve never, ever wanted a brother and if I do like a male celeb it’s probably not in a fraternal way (if you know what I mean).  James Corden always seems really nice and fun to be around, so I think I’ll have to go with him.

04. How old do you think you’ll be when you get married?

I’m already married!  I got married in December 2008 when I was 23 and next year is our 10 year anniversary!

05. Do you know a hoarder?

Know one?  I am one!  I am working on it though – I’m thinking of hiring a skip over the summer hols to help clear out.

06. Can you do the splits?

I wish!  I can’t even touch my toes…or my ankles for that matter.

07. How old were you when you first learned how to ride a bike?

I remember the day I did, but not how old I was – probably 6 or 7 maybe?

08. How many oceans have you swam in?

None.  I’m not a very strong swimmer so wouldn’t dare.  I imagine I have paddled in a few though.

09. How many countries have you been to?

I haven’t been abroad in a very long time, around 10 years ago now.  Back in the day, I would travel around quite a bit and I think I’ve probably been to around 10 countries including America, France, Spain and Morocco.

10. Is anyone in your family in the army?

Yes, I have a cousin in the RAF.

11. What would you name your daughter if you had one?

I have two daughters called Freya and Poppy.  If I was going to have another (very unlikely) I’d probably choose Imogen or Eloise.

12. What would you name your son if you had one?

We’d always hoped to have one son and call him Timothy Robert after both of our fathers.  Sadly, a little boy never arrived so the name remains unused.  (Mr Mess is also the last male in his side of the family so the dynasty ends with him!)

13. What’s the worst grade you’ve got on a test?

I once got a U in an A Level Music Theory exam, which was not a highlight of my educational career.  I did much better in the performance elements though, so brought my final grade up to a D overall.  Don’t ever let anyone tell you the Arts are easy subjects!

14. What was your favourite TV show when you were a kid?

This is a tough one, mainly because there are so many.  Kids’ programmes I loved were Funhouse, Finders Keepers, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Sister Sister.  I also loved game shows – Saturday night telly was my absolute favourite.  The best of the best were The Generation Game, The Crystal Maze, and Gladiators.

15. What did you dress up as for Halloween when you were 8?

I’m not sure we even did much for Halloween when I was 8!  I’d probably guess a witch or a vampire.

16. Have you read any of the Harry Potter, Hunger Games or Twilight series?

I’ve read all of them.  I think the Hunger Games is my favourite of the three, although it is very bleak!

17. Would you rather have an American accent or a British accent?

British, although I am sure I’ve pretended to be American a fair few times in my life.

18. Did your mother go to university?

Nope, but my dad did a Business Management degree at night school a few years ago!

19. Are your grandparents still married?

Sadly both my Momma and Nanna are widows, however if my Grandads were still alive I’m sure they would all still be married.

20. Have you ever taken karate lessons?

No, but I did attend a couple of Judo lessons as a child.

21. Do you know who Kermit the frog is?

Of course – is there anyone who doesn’t know Kermit?  (The Muppets’ Christmas Carol is one of my favourite films of all time!)

22. What was the first amusement park you went to?

It was probably Alton Towers.  My Dad’s work used to take us on an annual trip and it was always one of my highlights of the year.

23. What language beside your native language would you like to be fluent in?

I studied Spanish and Italian at university and really regret that I never managed to get fully fluent.  After years of neglect I’d be amazed if I could still say “Hello, my name is…”

24. Do you spell the colour grey or gray?

Definitely “grey” for the colour, but I do have a friend whose surname is “Gray”.

25. Is your father bald?

No, although he certainly has less hair than he used to.  I used to tease him mercilessly about this when I was younger.

26. Do you know any triplets?

I don’t know any triplets but my younger sisters are twins.  We all look so alike that we are regularly asked if we are triplets.  It makes me feel young!

27. Do you prefer Titanic or The Notebook?

I’ve never seen The Notebook so I’ll have to say Titanic.  I don’t like sad movies as much as I used to thought so I’ll probably never watch it again.

28. Have you ever had Indian food?

Yes, although I probably didn’t try it properly until I was in my late 20’s!  I love it now!

29. What’s the name of your favourite restaurant?

As I feel like I’ve mentioned in many other posts, my favourite restaurant is Iberico World Tapas in Nottingham.  The food is out of this world!

30. Have you ever been to Nandos?

Nope – am I missing much?

31. Do you belong to any warehouse stores (Costco, Bookers, etc.)?

No.  I don’t need any more encouragement to shop!

32. What would your parents have named you if you were the opposite gender?

I have literally no idea.  Mum, Dad – stick an answer in the comments, won’t you?

33. If you have a nickname, what is it?

Don’t laugh but Mr Mess has called me “Bunny” since we very first started dating.  I’ve been called that so long I answer to it, and feel weird if he calls me by my real name.  Even my kids call me the “Bunny Mummy”

34. Who’s your favourite person in the world?

There’s no way I could possibly choose between my two beautiful little girls and the long-suffering Mr Mess, of course.

35. Would you rather live in the countryside or the city?

I think I’m more comfortable somewhere in the middle.  I find a really large city quite intimidating, but I’m also definitely not a country girl.  I quite enjoy a walk in the woods, but I’m certainly not fond of mud or livestock.  So find me a quaint village, within close travelling distance to the town and a short walk to the countryside and I’m happy.

36. Can you whistle?

No, can never get the hang of it.  I sound like a really pathetic boiling kettle.

37. Do you sleep with a nightlight?

If I am on my own at night then yes!  I have an overactive imagination and being alone in the dark sends me into a total panic.

38. Do you eat breakfast every morning?

I hardly ever eat breakfast, which is a shame as it’s probably my favourite meal of the day.

39. Do you take any pills or medication daily?

During hayfever season I should really take antihistamines every day to help control the symptoms but I regularly forget.  I’m useless at remembering to take medication.

40. What medical conditions do you have?

As above, hayfever and that’s about it.  I’m pretty darn healthy really.

41. How many times have you been to the hospital?

Aside from visiting family, I’ve only been to hospital a handful of times.  Three times were pregnancy related or giving birth and the others were suspected injuries as a child.

42. Have you ever seen Finding Nemo?

Many times although I haven’t seen Finding Dory yet.

43. Where do you buy your jeans?

I hate wearing jeans as I find them uncomfortable and restricting but the one pair I do have probably came from a supermarket – Asda or Tesco.

44. What’s the last compliment you got?

I genuinely cannot remember the last time someone gave me a compliment so it must have been a while ago…or it didn’t make that much of an impact.  Rachael from Helpless While Drying called me a “shifty redhead” a while ago, and I totally took that as a compliment!

45. Do you usually remember your dreams in the morning?

Sometimes but not always.  When I do, they’re often very strange!  I really should write them down and make a dream diary. It would be a bizarre but fascinating read.

46. What flavour tea do you enjoy?

My absolute favourite tea is Earl Grey, but I do occasionally like Peppermint as an after dinner treat.

47. How many pairs of shoes do you currently own?

At a rough estimate I would have to say around 20.  Having said that, I am planning on having a big clear out over the summer as there are some I never wear.  Then I can buy more!

48. What religion will you raise your children to practice?

I wouldn’t say we particularly practice any religion, but we do tend to follow Church of England tradition and have started to pass these on to our kids.  We weren’t married in a church but both girls were christened and we all celebrate Easter, Christmas etc.  As the girls get older I hope to talk very frankly about religion so they can make their own choices based on their own beliefs.

49. How old were you when you found out that Santa wasn’t real?

Wait, he’s not?  Just kidding… I was one of those awful children who worked it out incredibly young and got in trouble for telling all the other children at school.

50. Why do you have a blog?

What a question!  This blog started, under a different name and format on NYE in 2013 as a sort of online diary to help me cope with my marriage breakdown.  Over the years it has grown and developed and a my life has changed, so has my blog.  It’s now (thankfully) a much happier place and I use it to document my life and adventures with my family as well as sharing my interests and hobbies.

Phew!! I thought we’d never get to the end, but here we are.  I hope I didn’t bore you silly, and maybe you feel like you’ve got to know me a little better

  1. Rachael says:

Why thank you for tagging me – I’m lacking in blog post inspo for next week so I may well type this out tonight!
Anna Kendrick would make such a fun sidekick!

You’ve never been to Nandos? I wouldn’t say you’re missing a lot but we tend to go as a quick food stop but don’t want something absolutely bad for you – you can be in and out in 30 minutes or so!
