A Mess In A Dress

It's a mixed up life...but someone has to live it!

Life Lately | The June Edition | A Mess In A Dress

July 9, 2017

As is normal practice on A Mess In A Dress I’m writing my June roundup and we’re already a week into July.  I mean, I knew June was going to fly by but frankly this month really took the proverbial.  It feels like only five minutes since I was writing my May roundup and I’m already drafting the July one.  It’s scary, really.

Throughout June, I have had a VERY full calendar which means I really haven’t had a lot of breathing space.  Still, it does give me lots to write about, so let’s crack on:

LIFE

June marks the beginning of family birthday season, with Dad’s birthday and Miss Mess’ birthday coming in very quick succession.  We had a couple of weeks of intense celebrations including a family BBQ, a trip to the Greyhound Racing and a formal birthday party (which will get it’s own blog post which is being drafted at the moment)

June has also been brilliant for getting me back in the theatre.  After months without a visit I’ve had two in very quick succession (there was actually a third but that fell just into July so will appear on the next round up.)  First up was Funny Girl, followed closely by The Addams Family, both of which were brilliant and both of which kept me on a high during some very stressful weeks at work.

Although it feels like years ago now, June also saw our most recent General Election and the dramatic fallout.  I always tend to get a little political (ok, A LOT political) around election time, and although I don’t write about it a lot on this blog, it does occasionally creep out – like in this post.

Last month was also showtime for me and the girls.  I had a Summer Concert right at the very beginning of June and then the girls were in a production of Aladdin Jr towards the end.  Miss Mess was fabulous as always and Mini Mess made her on-stage debut which was ridiculously cute.  I had some very proud mummy moments.

BLOG

Over on the blog, June saw me start to get a little back to normal. With such a hectic schedule it’s been difficult to keep up with posting and promoting but I have managed some of the time and seen definite results.  I also managed to get a couple of blogging opportunities booked in and I have a few more planned in July so things are definitely looking up again.  Hopefully over the Summer I can really get stuck in and find some kind of routine.

Although I didn’t post quite as many times as I would have liked, I am pleased with content I did get published – they do say quality over quantity, right? My three most popular posts of the month were:

Food & Drink Review: Griddle and Shake, Nottingham – This was a review of a gorgeous restaurant I visited that sadly closed down very shortly after this review was published.  It was a real shame as I really enjoyed my visit and had planned to go back.  I hope the two things weren’t related.

The Election Special – Apparently, people like it when I get ranty!

My third most popular post of the month was actually the Funny Girl review, but seeing as I’ve already mentioned that one, I’ll skip to the next on the list:

Friends of Chatsworth Membership Review – Our Chatsworth Membership cards are probably one of our most valuable possessions and give us hours, if not days of joy.  I wrote all about the many benefits in this post.

LOOKING FORWARD

July is set to be another busy but exciting month.  We’ve already done some really great things, but you’re going to have to wait until the next monthly round up to find out what they are. (Unless you’re following me on my other social media (see the bottom of the post) in which case you might have had a sneak preview.

Most importantly, July is my birthday month so I’m pretty much already spending my birthday money in my head.  Just to be different, I actually have something planned on my birthday night, so I’m looking forward to a good night out with the girls.

It’s also the countdown to the Summer holidays.  I can’t remember the last time I was this much in need of a holiday (probably the last end-of-term) but I genuinely can’t wait to get some serious R & R.  This is going to be a well-deserved break and I plan to get the most out of my time off.

We’ve got more jam-packed weekends full of family visits, theatre trips and dance exams so the next round up should be interesting as well.

I hope you all have a fabulous July and I’ll see you at the start of August with my next round up!

How lovely to have all the birthdays grouped so closely together, must be a wonderful celebratory season for your family! I think it’s great to see bloggers getting involved in politics and talking about important topics, I think it should be applauded! Hope July brings much happiness for you!

Hurrah for holidays starting for you! Sounds like you had a fab month, can you tell I’m binging and catching up on everything I missed whilst I was away.
You’re right the election does seem like ages ago – it’s weird as it feels like there’s been no change!
