Oklahoma! In Pictures | A Mess In A Dress

May 14, 2017

I may not have mentioned it too often (I jest) but I recently played Ado Annie in an amateur production of Oklahoma!  Yes I’m still talking about it but it really was the highlight of my year so far. (I wrote a whole post about how much I loved it)  It’s an experience that I know I will treasure for a long time to come.

My only real regret is that I didn’t persuade/coerce/blackmail more people into coming to see the show.  Most of my close family and friends did come along (and I’m very grateful to them) but it would have been nice to have a few more familiar faces.  It’s really hard to explain a show to someone who hasn’t seen it.  It’s the kind of thing you really have to see for yourself.

Although we weren’t allowed to film the show (pesky copyright law) we did get some great photos at the dress rehearsal.  Thanks to Barney Miles for stepping in as our photographer for the day.  So, for those of you who didn’t get to see it in the flesh, here is Oklahoma! in pictures.

Ado Annie makes her first appearance in this scene with her best friend, Laurey (here played by the lovely Louise).

Ado Annie’s solo number “I’m just a girl who cain’t say no!”

Ado Annie’s head is turned by the Persian peddler man.

Thanks to her over-protective father (and his trusty shotgun), Ado Annie finds herself engaged for the first (but not last) time in the show.

“With you, it’s all er nuthin'” Annie’s duet with her long-suffering beau, Will.

My costume in this scene was made by my wonderful friend, Amanda.  I don’t know what I’d do without her.

At the start of the rehearsal period, I was very nervous about the on-stage kissing, but I soon got used to it.  There was a LOT of kissing in this show.

A LOT of kissing!

“That ain’t nothing compared to an Oklahoma hello!”

The show wouldn’t have been the same without this fabulous group of people and I was so lucky to have them supporting me and cheering me on.

Oh I miss performing so much! Oklahoma has never been one of my faves but if I lived nearby, I’d have definitely gone to see it! Huge congrats on performing and getting a leading role!
