Life Lately: The March Edition

Wait?  What?  Where did March go?  Did I blink and miss it?

I know it’s a massive cliche, and all bloggers say it, but time is passing so fast at the moment.  I can’t believe we’re already creeping up to Easter and then we’re on our way to Summer.  So, what have we been up to?

March began and ended with the ladies of the house treading the boards.  At the beginning of the month I finished my run as Ado Annie in Oklahoma!  It was absolutely one of the best experiences of my life and I miss it so much.  We’ve now started rehearsing for our Summer Concert, so at least I still get the hang out with some of the Oklahoma! cast.

Last weekend it was Miss Mess’ turn to take the spotlight in her youth theatre production of Oliver!  It is a long weekend for her, with one dress rehearsal and three shows over the course of two days.  She looked a little tired at times, but she soldiered on.  Although I don’t think it was her best show, she does still show some natural talent.  Although I know people will think I’m biased because she’s my baby, I also have higher expectations so I can be a bit tough on her.  (Yes, I am turning into a pushy theatre mum!)

Sadly, another common theme in March has been vomit.  The girls have been passing their sickness bug back and forward between themselves for the past few weeks. We have a couple of days where we think it’s done and then, boom, the other one gets it.  Poor Mr Mess has done more laundry, carpet cleaning and nursing in the past few weeks than in the rest of their little lives.  It’s exhausting.  Mini Mess has just got over her latest bout.  Fingers crossed we’ve seen the back of it once and for all!

After months of badgering, my work have finally agreed to increase my hours back up to full time.  On the condition that I was willing to take on more work from a colleague who is leaving.  While I’m alway happy to have new challenges, it is a bit annoying as I’d asked for more hours due to the fact I have to do so much overtime just to get my own work finished! Still, the new tasks will help to boost my CV and hopefully give me more experience if I ever need to go for an interview in the future.

Also on the plus side is this does mean a little bit extra in the pay packet.  Which is a bloody good job, as EVERY single bill we have has increased this month.  Where do they think the money comes from?

Another recent change is that I have  decided to travel to work on the bus every day. We are a one-car family, so there are days when Mr Mess needs the car for work and to get the kids to dance classes etc.  It just seemed more convenient and cost-effective to get a week’s bus pass.  I know some people hate public transport, but I really don’t mind.  I get to sit with a coffee and read a book, so it’s like getting some cheeky me-time on the way to and from work.

With everything else going on, the blog has very much been put on the back burner this March. It’s a shame, as I had some of my best ever views at the start of the month, but I just couldn’t keep up the momentum.  After a long day at work, once the kids are fed, bathed and in bed, I don’t always feel like concentrating on writing blog posts and updating social media.  I’m hoping I can get some of my motivation back in April.

Speaking of April, I have booked an advertising slot over on I absolutely love Jemma’s blog and I’m really excited to be advertising over there.  I’m currently trying to work on some new content and tart up my blog a little to make it worthwhile.

After a bit of a dry spell, I’ve also managed to get a couple of blogging events booked in for April, so hopefully I will have lots to share with you.  I’m really looking forward to getting back into blogging more consistently.

Today is also the last day of term which means I now get two weeks and one day of Easter holidays!  I’m so ready for a break and I have lots of lovely Easter plans for the family.  I’m sure you’ll be reading plenty more about those in the upcoming weeks.

Have a fabulous April everybody!  I’ll do another round up in a month’s time!

Thanks Kara! The little one is starting up soon, so we’ll be on big theatrical family. Well, we are a bunch of drama queens!

The theatre shows sound so good! Glad you enjoyed them! I hate when bills increase, especially when you aren’t expecting it as well! I also broke up for Easter today and am really excited to have a bit of time off work to get in front with my blogging again, cant wait to see the fun things you get up to over the Easter holidays x

Thank you. It was a bit crazy but hopefully things will settle down a bit now. It’s nice to be catching up with you all again.

Oh no, sorry to hear that vomit was such a common occurrence this month!! Congratulations on you and your family’s theatre achievements too, those are really fab! I’m sure you’ll find Jemma’s blog advertising really beneficial, she’s a superstar! If you’re looking to advertise with anyone else, I offer ad slots for as little as £1 on my blog too! I hope you have a fantastic April!

I don’t get why people hate public transport so much! I get the bus to and from town everyday cause it’s so much less stressful than driving in rush hour, and I use the time to write comments on blog posts (like right now!) or read a book. Sounds like a busy month for you, didn’t realise you were into musical theatre too, I love it!
