Things I’m looking forward to in 2017

January 13, 2017

I’ve just spent a good portion of the evening updating my many calendars and diaries ( one is never enough) and I suddenly realised that I have got a lot to look forward to.  If we ignore for a moment the possibility of impending global political and financial crisis, 2017 might actually turn out pretty well!

In order to stay focussed on the positive, rather than the negative, I thought I’d share with you just some of the things I’m looking forward to this year:

Theatre Trips

Regular readers of this blog will know by now that I am a huge fan of live theatre of all kinds and I try to see as many shows as I possibly can.  This year is certainly no exception and my diary is already full of bookings that I am ridiculously excited about.  So far, there’s Sister Act, The Woman In Black, Crazy For You, The Addams Family, Funny Girl to name but a few.  I’m also keeping my eyes open for anything else that might be worth a watch – I’m desperate to see Thoroughly Modern Millie if that tours nearby so I’m on the lookout!

Strictly Come Dancing Live

I know this is kind of theatre, but it’s also a bit bigger than that and it’s something a little special.  On a whim, Mr Mess and I decided to book to take Miss Mess to see the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour.  She really enjoyed this recent series so we think she’ll love the chance to see her favourites live.  (She was particularly fond of Daisy who replied to a picture she drew on Twitter.)  It’s also Len Goodman’s final tour so we simply had to be there!

Oklahoma!

Ok, last theatre thing, I promise.  For now, anyway.  This is certainly going to be one of the highlights of 2017 as I will be playing the principal role of Ado Annie in Oklahoma!  Rehearsals are in full swing, I’m loving every minute and I can’t wait to finally get on that stage.  Expect to hear A LOT about this in the run up.  I’m even thinking of doing a bit of vlogging during show week to give you a back stage view!

The Big De-clutter!

Mr Mess and I have decided that this will be the year to really get out life sorted.  We’re planning a huge clear-out, where we let go of things that are unnecessary or unimportant and refocus our priorities.  To help, my Mum bought me Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying UP.  We’ve already started working through some of the stuff, taking unwanted items to the charity shop or recycling centre.  It feels very uplifting every time we pack up something and get it out of the house.  I’m looking forward to seeing how far we’ve come by the end of the year.

Beauty and the Beast, Live Action

I know this is very specific and obvious, but I really am looking forward to the release of this film.  I’m not even sure if it’s going to be good, but I’m really interested to find out and I’ll be reserving judgment until I’ve seen it for myself.  I’m hopefully going to take both girls to watch it (Mini Mess’s first cinema trip) so it will be something for the whole family to look forward to.

Blogging Events and Opportunities

Working on my blog and watching it grow was certainly a highlight of 2016.  I’m very much hoping we continue in the same vein for 2017.  I already have at least one blogging event coming up and I’m on the lookout for more in the coming months.  I can’t wait to see where blogging leads this year!

My 1st Half Marathon

Ok, so “looking forward to” is probably not exactly the right way to describe how I feel about this particular event.  I mean, obviously I hate running and the prospect of surviving a 13 mile race isn’t a pleasant one.  Still, there’s a stubborn part of me that is eager to face the challenge and I know I’ll be so proud of myself when I succeed!  I’m planning on choosing a charity and collecting sponsorship, to make this even more special.  Stay posted for more posts about this in the future.

Settling Down

Not really an event, but more a feeling.  I’ve had a fair bit of drama over the past year and finally, finally I think things are starting to calm down a bit.  I am so ready to lead a happy, quiet life with my little family and absolutely NO drama!  No more ups and downs, no more unexpected surprises.  Just peace, tranquility and contentment.  I’m really hoping that 2017 can be my year for settling down and just enjoying life.  Fingers crossed!

Oo, writing this list has made me SO ready for this year to get going.  Luckily I don’t have long to wait as some of these things are happening REALLY soon!

What are you looking forward to in 2017?  Is it a big event or something more personal?  Let me know in the comments below!
