A Mess In A Dress

It's a mixed up life...but someone has to live it!

Dear Diary: One hectic weekend

April 26, 2016

When I first started writing for A Mess In A Dress (Which was originally “Desperately Seeking Stacey” and later became “A Little Pinch of Pixie Dust”)  I used to write deeply personal posts about events in my life.  After all, the trigger to start writing was the break-up of my marriage.  Writing became a way of coping.

Over time, I introduced the blog to more and more of my real friends and acquaintances and subsequently the posts became less and less honest.  Recently, I’ve felt like I might like to start writing a new series of posts, a bit like a weekly journal, where I get to be just a little more like “me” again.

I’ve been racking my brains for weeks trying to come up with a clever name for this new series.  As you can see – I failed.  Answers on a postcard if you can think of anything more original than “Dear Diary”.

Last weekend was crazily busy.  I’m often guilty of taking far too much on and not really leaving myself any breathing space.  Over two days I managed to squeeze in a Burlesque photoshoot, two birthday tea parties, a family birthday dinner and baking 24 cupcakes for my Nanna’s birthday. (Gluten free to boot!)

I thoroughly enjoyed each of these things and wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on any of them.  It was just unfortunate that they all fell on the same weekend! There was also a Burlesque dance show on Saturday night which I really wanted to participate in, but had to be realistic.  To try and fit in anything else would have been utter madness.

The problem was, although I had a lovely time, my feet hardly seemed to touch the floor!  By Sunday evening I was completely exhausted and could hardly keep my eyes open during “Agent Carter” which I love and have a whole season to catch up on!

I hadn’t even fully recovered on Monday evening, when I was in bed for 9.45pm, which is ridiculously early for me. I did however manage to finish a jigsaw puzzle (I know how to rock) and watch the new episode of Game of Thrones (a lot of prologue) so the evening wasn’t a complete bust!

Tonight I shall finally get back to my Burlesque class after far too long.  I’ve really missed my girls and the giggles we have. (Not to mention the fact that I’m really noticing I haven’t exercised for a while – my clothes are getting a bit snug!)

Thankfully this weekend is slightly less manic.  Saturday is a bit mental, but Sunday will offer time to relax and recover so we should be fine.  I do need to learn to budget my time better and try not to take too much on.

And I need to make sure I leave some time free for important things – like blogging!

Hopefully I shall find time over the next few days to get some more posts written and then, all going well, there’ll be another diary entry next Sunday.

Have a good week everybody!
