A Mess In A Dress

It's a mixed up life...but someone has to live it!

Stop what you’re doing
Personal

Stop what you’re doing

April 22, 2016

Right now.  Just stop.  I want you to do something for me.

I want you to think back over the last couple of weeks, the last couple of months, the last year, the last few years, the last decade….

It seems to me that we all have something that we have been struggling with.  Something that we are fighting through.  I want you to think about yours.

I suppose, in the grand scheme of things, some people’s troubles are worse than others.  But to each individual person I would think it is fair to say that their trouble is the very worst.  Because it’s the one that you have to deal with.

So think about that problem, that dilemma, that struggle.  And repeat after me…

I survived.

Because, you know what?  You did.  It doesn’t matter if you’re still struggling.  It doesn’t matter if the problem is on-going, or long past.  It doesn’t matter if you coped well, or if you fell apart.

The fact that you are sitting here now, reading this post, means that you have survived everything thrown at you so far.  And that’s something to be proud of.

Everybody has days where they want to throw in the towel, to say they’ve had enough and give up.  But that very fact that you’re here today is testament to the fact that you didn’t

I can’t promise that things will get better in the future.  Heck, from my experience there is every chance that things will get worse.  But you’ve come this far and you’ve come out fighting.

So celebrate that today.  Give yourself a pat on the back.  Treat yourself to something you love.  Today you can look at yourself in the mirror and know you’re a survivor.

And the next time you’re feeling low, like you can’t go on, just think back to today and remind yourself…

I survived.
